911 Dispatch

A division of the Harney County Sheriff’s Office, Dispatch is the 911 answering point for all of Harney County and is staffed 24 hours a day/365 days a year.

In addition to 911 calls, the communications center receives and dispatches calls for Burns/Hines/Tribal Police, Burns/Hines Fire and EMS (Emergency Medical Services).  We also articulate with other Federal, State and Local agencies as an information hub and logistical support.  All telecommunicators are EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) certified, using state approved pre-arrival instructions.

The Harney County 911 Dispatch system is enhanced, which means our system will attempt to identify the originating phone number and address and display the information on a computer screen in the communications center.  We also always verify information with callers as technology isn’t 100% reliable.

There are three 911 lines, four business telephone lines and a four radio channels which are monitored 24/7/365.

The largest county in the state, Harney County covers 10,228 square miles with a population approximately 7,200 humans (our cow population is about 14 times that number, though!)  The area also receives around 100,000 visitors each year.
