The Blue Mountain Forest Service office has shared that the Notice of Availability for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Blue Mountain Forest Land Management Plan revision will be published on July 2, 2026. Once published, it can be located at https://www.fs.usda.gov/r06/umatilla/planning/development-draft-environmental-impact-statement.
Public feedback is essential as we develop the materials for the Malheur, Umatilla, and Wallowa-Whitman Forest plans.
The publication of the NOA starts a 90-Day public comment period that will be important as it can provide official standing in the objection period. Comments must be received in writing and can be submitted either through email to sm.fs.bluesforests@usda.gov, the CARA system https://usfs-public.app.box.com/v/PinyonPublic/folder/208417236164, or can be mailed to Umatilla National Forest Supervisor’s Office at:

The Forest Service looks forward to hearing from you about the DEIS and its alternatives.
In the DEIS you will find three alternatives.
- Alternative 1 reflects the required no-action alternative and would continue the 1990’s plans.
- Alternative 2 provides active management across the landscape.
- Alternative 3 was also developed to consider scoping comments and provide active management with additional resource considerations.
