Weddings
Justice of the Peace as Wedding Officiant
Judge Richardson loves to perform weddings! Weddings come in all shapes and sizes, from large events with the whole nine yards, to private intimate wedding ceremonies with just a few guests, to even simple signing ceremonies. Courthouse wedding ceremonies and courthouse-adjacent ceremonies are a cost-effective alternative that may be the right fit for you.
In order to be married, you will need to bring a wedding license from a County Clerk. Normally, there is a three-day waiting period in between the license and the ceremony, but the County Clerk may waive the waiting period if you request it. You will also need two adult witnesses. If you are being married in the courthouse, our clerk can help as a witness. The cost of a Justice of the Peace wedding ceremony is $117. This is due at the time of scheduling the wedding. Payment is accepted by cash, check or money order. Make checks payable to Harney County Justice Court.
Wedding Venues
Often, Judge Richardson officiates courthouse weddings. There are a few locations in the courthouse, such as the Justice Court Courtroom, the lobby, Circuit Court Courtroom, and front lawn, that we can use. The court is sometimes able to accommodate same-day weddings, but please see below for scheduling your wedding with the Justice Court.
We also are available to officiate weddings outside the courthouse, inside and outside of normal working hours. We are available to travel within the Harney County area, if schedule permits. When a couple selects an out-of-courthouse wedding, they are responsible for selecting the location and any aspects to ensure they can be married at that location. Court clerks cannot serve as a witness for out-of-courthouse weddings.
