- Harney County is seeking letters from interested persons to serve on the Harney County Planning Commission. If persons would like to submit their name of consideration, please write a brief one-page letter of intent stating your occupation and area of the County in which you reside. Pursuant to ORS 215.020, the Planning Commission is made up of seven members and represents various areas around the County. As stated by ORS 215.030, the length of service for the Planning Commission is 4 years (one term) and shall be appointed by the governing body of the County. The Commission hears land use requests, such as conditional uses, variance requests and is the starting point of all land use plan amendments. Candidates for this position must live in Harney County. Commission members who travel long distances receive mileage reimbursements on a monthly basis. Appointed members attend monthly Planning Commission meetings at the Harney County Courthouse every 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7 pm.
